Yellow Retinal Deposits Causing Gradual Central Vision Distortion in Adults
Adult-onset vitelliform macular disease is a condition in which yellow deposits accumulate beneath the retina, disrupting the function of the macula. Unlike Best disease, which typically begins in childhood, this form manifests in adulthood — often from the fourth decade of life onward.
The condition is often linked to dysfunction of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). While some cases have a clear genetic basis, others may occur without a definitive family history.
Typically identified through optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus autofluorescence imaging, and a full clinical eye examination. Genetic testing may be conducted to identify any associated mutations.
Our approach uses Stem Cell Therapy to support the health of the RPE and surrounding retinal tissue, with the aim of slowing disease progression. Treatment is tailored to each patient based on their stage of disease and medical history.
